Torquemada, Favored by the Crucible

"If thine hand cause thee to sin, cut it off. If thine head cause thee to sin, I shall cut it off for thee."

Torquemada, a blacksmith, mistook an apprentice for an intruder in the night and took to him with a recently-finished axe. Upon realizing what he had done, with grief and remorse he crawled to the feet of the Mother and, with the aid of a priest, cut off his hands in sacrifice. As he lay dying from the loss of blood, the Miracle took compassion on his hoarse and incessant pleas for redemption--replacing wayward hands with sanctified axe blade and wayward mind with blissful, unquestioning obedience to the church. On the Wall of Holy Prohibitions, beneath the black bound hood of the Executioner, he now grants eternal redemption at the Mother's will.
